4 Sisters of the Incarnate Word Profess First Vows

Must read

Four Sisters have taken their first religious profession of vows in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word at the St Paul Catholic Church at Wamfie in the Sunyani Diocese of the Bono Region of Ghana.

The newly professed Sisters are Veronica Ferkaa, Veronica Bawiah, Matilda Opoku Gyima and Gloria Pomaa.

The Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani presided over the October 5, 2024 celebration of the Holy Eucharist, who in a homily urged the newly professed sisters to rely solely on the providence of God as they live the life of poverty.

He added that if they rely on material things they would not be able to live a life of poverty and encouraged the Sisters to keep their vow of Consecrated Celibacy, bearing in mind modern theologies which can easily distract one in their relationship with God.

He lamented how some Sisters live a modern way of life, and are convinced about themselves, advising them not to allow the world to take them and lead them on a path that the Lord does not want.

Bishop Gyamfi urged the Sisters to live a life of obedience to the Word of God, and that without obedience, one cannot be a Christian, let alone being a religious.

He further urged the newly professed to trust in the Lord and to learn the obedience of Jesus Christ.

He admonished them not to impose their ideas and intelligence on others, and that they are interested in the teachings of the Church, without which all other teachings are a farce.

“Be careful if not you will disappoint yourself as a religious” he added.

At same ceremony, Srs. Winifred Owusua, Juliana Asantewaa and Francisca Gyeduwaa also renewed their commitment to the Lord.

The Bishop encouraged the families of the Sisters to continue praying for them and  asked all families to present at least one child as a gift to the Lord, to the priestly and religious life.
