About 800 members of the Accra West Grand Commandery of the Knights and Ladies Auxiliary of St. John International marked their 2024 St. John the Baptist Feast in a grand style at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at New Achimota, Accra.

With 30 Parishes in Accra forming the Grand Commandery, the feast Day Mass on Sunday, June 30, was presided over by Very Rev Fr. Dr. Capt. Vitus Edem Yao Mensah, OFM Conv.

The feast day was on the theme: Guardian of innocence: A year of Chivalry for Children.

In a speech, the Regiment Commander, Colonel Jude Mawuli Anani, said this year’s celebration was tailored to promote the vision of the Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSP,  who has dedicated this year to children with the theme: Helping Children to seek Christ, from discovery to discipleship” (John 12:21) “We wish to see Jesus.”

According to him, “Our Family Feast Day once again offers us the opportunity to reflect on the number of times that we have made the life of our own members miserable, by looking down on others, accusing falsely, chastising wrongly, failing to support a brother or sister in need.”

“All these do not reflect our calling as Knights and Ladies for that matter serving as Guardians of Innocence,” he added.

He prayed that the theme for the celebration this year would awaken in members of the Ancient Order the true spirit of knighthood and sisterhood “to enable us serve as watchmen and watchwomen over our children and ensure that none of them perishes.”

He appealed to members “to consciously work on their shortcomings and weaknesses and embrace a new ambiance of mentorship to our children so that together we can all share the blessings that come from our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Regiment Commander, Colonel Jude Anani Mawuli made a presentation on behalf of the Grand Commandery to the OLA Parish and received on behalf of the Church by Major Godwin Yao Katako.
