VIS Ghana and BOK Africa Concern in collaboration with the Catholic Dioceses of Techiman and Sunyani in the Bono and Bono East Regions are set to establish a Black Soap Warehouse at Senase.
The Warehouse project will complement already existing facilities at the Nana Owusu Fakyiwaa Soap Resource Center at Senase in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region.
The GH¢ 600,000 project includes the construction of a Warehouse which would have washrooms for persons with disability and an underground water tank. Architects without Borders in Italy put up the design for the project at no-cost.
In addition, the Berekum East Municipal takes care of all permits and documentations regarding the project. The local community of Senase, will contribute with materials and labour all at no-cost.
In a statement signed by Benson Osei-Savio Boateng, BOK Africa and Silvia Tizzi, VIS Ghana noted that, the Nana Owusu Fakyiwaa Soap Resource Center at Senase is among a series of ongoing projects under the theme “Supporting local development tackling irregular migration in Ghana”, financed by Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) and implemented by VIS Ghana in collaboration with Salesians of Don Bosco AFW and the Catholic Dioceses of Techiman and Sunyani.
The facility, which is in Senase, in the Berekum East Municipality, is central in coordinating black soap production associations in neighboring towns such as Berekum, Wamfie, Dormaa-Ahenkro and Busunya.
It is worth noting that since the establishment of the Nana Owusu Fakyiwaa Soap Resource Center last year, more than 1,300 women have been trained in Black Soap Production and are already producing for the market. The support program includes also, a mini-grant of GH¢ 145,000.00 and actions of marketing promotion.
The Rector of the Don Bosco Community in Sunyani, Rev. Fr. Robertson K. Sung-Iribe SDB, in a homily during the Eucharistic Celebration encouraged the support for both spiritual and physical development of the members of the community. He noted that the Ministry of Christ should give hope to those in penury and this project is a swift response to the call of the Mother Church.
