Passengers travelling on a ferry (pontoon) from Kpando Torkor to Agordeke in the Afram Plains are reportedly stuck in the middle of the Volta Lake due to a technical fault on the pontoon.
A message from a Catholic Nun, Sr. Cecilia Kudexa, a member of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), who is also on the pontoon, indicates that they were stuck since 4:00pm yesterday, August 23, 2024.
In the message made available to Newswatchgh.com, Sr. Kudexa wrote: “We are still in the middle of the lake.”
Information reaching Newswatcgh.com as of this dawn indicates that the passengers slept in the pontoon in the middle of the Volta Lake as plans are being made to rescue them.
The Catholic Nun and other passengers are therefore calling on the authorities of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to urgently come to their aid as they also call for rescue teams to support with boats and canoes to evacuate them before a disaster happens.
