“Empty Yourselves” – Priest Urges Religious Undergoing Formation in Ghana

At a Sunday Mass held at the Institute for Continuing Formation (ICF) at Elmina in the Cape Coast Archdiocese of Ghana for Junior Professed Sisters and Formation of Formators, Rev. Fr. Jean Benjamin, OFM, has urged them to always empty themselves as they give out their all for the Kingdom of God.

Sharing his reflection on the readings of the day, Fr. Benjamin enumerated some ways through which one can get closer to God, mentioning prayer, reading of the scriptures and the empting of one’s self of ego and sharing our resources with others.

Quoting St Francis of Asissi, Fr. Benjamin said “We shall go to heaven not with what we have but with what we have given to others”.

Present at the Mass was the Director of the institute, Rev. Bro Emmanuel Affum, SVD who is journeying with them.

The Junior Professed Sisters were at ICF to undertake a formation programme to empty themselves. The Mass marked the commencement of the 2024/2025 temporary professed programme and the formation of Formators, which began on October 5, 2024.

The Institute for Continuing Formation is a Catholic Institution that provide short spiritual courses including formation of Formators, temporary professed programme, the art of spiritual direction, etc.

The 2024/2025 programme has received 10 candidates for formation of Formators from various countries such as, India, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria there are 14 temporary professed sisters from several congregation and institutes.
