[Opinion] Ghanaian Electorate

Must read

Even before the National Constitution, the highest authority of the State, the electorate must have priority on the hierarchy of values.

Both the winners and loosers in the just ended general polls identified and rightly acknowledged that the outcome is the “voice of the Ghanaian electorate.”

The Electorate has priority over the State Constitution because laws are made for humans and not vice versa.

With regards to casting votes in an election, the “voice” (thumb) of every member of the electorate carries equal “sound” – man, woman, educated, illiterate, rich, poor, healthy, sick, etc.

Next only to the “gun,” the collective (human) “thumb” has the power to oust the leader from his or her seat of authority over people.

It is the pastoral duty of the Church, especially the leadership, to educate the citizenry to use the thumb to promote good governance towards the common good.
