Michael Djan of Donkorkrom Vicariate Elected Chairman of Accra Provincial Laity Council

Mr. Michael Djan, the Laity Council Chairman for the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains, Eastern Region of Ghana, has been elected as the Laity Council Chairman for Accra Province for the next three years, which also makes him the National Vice Chairman.

Accra Province includes the Accra Archdiocese, Jasikan, Keta-Akatsi, Koforidua, Ho Dioceses, and the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate.

The election of both the Provincial and National Executives, who will govern for the next three years, took place during the 46th Plenary Assembly and the 50th Anniversary of the Ghana National Catholic Laity Council. This event occurred from April 23 to 27, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, University of Ghana, Accra.

The Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Bishop of the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate and National Episcopal Chair for the Laity, witnessed the elections. Also present was the Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Accra, who represented the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC).

Mr. Michael Djan is a devout Catholic, a Lay Reader, and a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Donkorkrom, and has been the Chairman of the Vicariate Laity Council since 2022.

He is a teacher in administration and serves as the District Statistics Officer with the Ghana Education Service in Donkorkrom.

He is also a member of the Eastern Regional Education Monitoring Team and has served as a National Trainer on the Mobile School Report Card (MSRC).
