Prioritize Home Visitation – Bishop Louis Urges Priests

Must read

The Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of Accra, has urged Priests to prioritize home visitation as it helps members of the church to remain steadfast in faith.

During his pastoral visit to the Archbishop Andoh Catechetical Centre at Kordiabe, he lamented that many Priests have forgotten the importance of visiting the lay faithful in their homes after being ordained.

He said, “Many priests, after ordination, do not visit homes; that is a problem. When we visit the homes, we see the people”, stating that it encourages people to attend Mass and participate in Church activities.

He also added that godparents of newly confirmed members of the Church must follow up on their godchildren, stating that the Catholic population in Ghana is reducing because godparents do not follow up on their godchildren after confirmation.

“Because godparents don’t follow up, that’s why we are losing members, the young ones especially, when they go to senior high school after we have confirmed them, no one follows up, then they are gone”, he said.

According to Bishop Louis, the godparents must have an interest in the lives of their godchildren and encourage them to attend Mass and be active in their various societies in order for them to remain committed to the Catholic faith.

As part of his pastoral visit to the community, Bishop Louis visited the project sites of Our Lady of Fatima Church and St. Justin Church, outstations of the Archbishop Andoh Catechetical Centre, to assess the sites and the progress made so far.

He encouraged the various leaders of the Church communities to document their challenges, submit to the Archdiocese, and give reports on the progress each community makes.

These outstations have acquired land for the establishment of churches in the Shai Osudoku constituency and are seeking the support of the Archdiocese and interested Parishes to build their Church.
