Must read

Very Rev. Fr. John Kobina Obeng Amoah has officially been installed as the Parish Priest of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sakumono by the Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Accra, on May 25, 2025.

The Parish community also re-dedicated their grotto, after the Christian Mothers Association of the church renovated the place to make it conducive for prayers.

During the celebration, Mr. Edward Foli Esq., Parish Pastoral Council Chairman of the Church, noted that the installation of a priest was important as it was established by Jesus Christ.

He said, “The installation of a parish priest follows a most ancient tradition, instituted by Jesus Christ Himself when He established the church, His body and bride on earth upon the foundation of St. Peter and the apostles”.

He encouraged parishioners to fully participate in the celebration as it signifies “unity with God in both word and deed to receive His appointed servant”.

Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, during the celebration, highlighted the importance of re-dedicating the grotto, stating that the grotto is not an ordinary place, and so there is a need to re-dedicate it after renovation.

In his homily, Bishop Asare focused on church leadership, recounting the election of Pope Leo XVI as a solemn ceremony with prayer, saying, “My dear friends, they prayed and the choice came”.

According to him, Church leadership comes with great responsibility, and he advised Fr. Amoah to serve the parish in humility.

He said, “When they give you church authority, it is a responsibility, and when it dawns on you, you cannot jubilate.”

Bishop Asare described the installation ceremony as a “ceremony of faithfulness”, urging parishioners to cooperate with Fr. Amoah and buy into his visions.

He added that the ceremony confirms that Fr. Amoah becomes a chief shepherd and servant of the church.

“In our church, when they give you a mandate, the Lord says it is not to lourde it over anybody but to serve. It is the service that makes you important”, he added.

Bishop Asare encouraged Fr. Amoah to serve the parish with joy and urged him to share any challenges and achievements with his brother priests and religious.

Rev. Fr. John Kobina Obeng Amoah, during his installation, pledged to seek the guidance, counsel, and advice of the Archbishop, emphasizing his commitment to collaborating with the church.

In his address, Fr. Amoah expressed gratitude to God for His mercies and appreciated the presence of Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare during the remarkable moments of his priesthood.

“I will continue to count on your guidance, encouragement, and support”, he added.

To the parishioners, he said that he was happy to be their pastor and acknowledged them for receiving him into the community.

He added, “I am here beloved in Christ to serve you, I am here to feed you, spiritually, and I am here to bring you Jesus. This moment is not just about me, it is about us, the people of God gathered here in this vibrant and faithful community.”

Fr. Amoah was appointed Parish priest of Corpus Christi Catholic Church on August 15, 2024 by the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra.
