The Parish Youth Council of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Osu, in the Accra Archdiocese has organised a special youth event dubbed “Time with Our Elders” on May 23, 2025, featuring prominent elders who have impacted the country positively.
This event featured Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Commissioner of Police, as the guest speaker, who shared her inspiring life story and valuable insights with the youths.
In her address, she emphasised the importance of hard work and seriousness, citing her own experience of being promoted ahead of her seniors in the Ghana Police Service due to her diligence.
She advised the youth to do every task assigned to them, even without rewards, as it would ultimately lead to their growth and development.
COP Addo-Danquah also stressed the significance of integrity, stating, “Integrity is key, if you can’t be trusted, then you have nowhere to go”, encouraging the youth to be honest and trustworthy, especially when given opportunities.
While speaking, she shared how she overcame challenges, from selling goods at Konongo station to support her mother financially, to pursuing her education.

She recounted how she started school at a young age, following her father, a teacher, and later attended a Catholic primary school in Konongo, which instilled in her the Catholic faith.
Despite facing difficulties when her parents divorced and her father traveled to Nigeria, COP Addo-Danquah persevered and passed her common entrance exams, urging the youth to be disciplined in their endeavors.
She cautioned the youth against getting into marriage without proper preparation, referencing her own experience.
She said, “Sometimes we get into relationships or marriage when we haven’t prepared”, advising them not to expect others to take care of them in unprepared marriage situations.
COP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah encouraged the youths to identify their passions and work towards them, stating, “The youth have to identify what they want to do and work towards it.” She also advised them to volunteer and help others, as it opens opportunities.
In addition, she counseled young ladies to focus on male-dominated workplaces, warning that failure to do so could lead to them being broken down.
She further emphasized the importance of believing in oneself and staying focused, advising the youth not to depend solely on government employment but to explore other opportunities.
COP Mrs. Maame Addo-Danquah was born on August 19, 1969, in Konongo. She joined the Ghana Police Service on July 27, 1990, and has risen through the ranks to become a Commissioner and currently the Director-General of Research and Planning for the Ghana Police Service.
She has an impressive background, including being a Chartered Accountant and serving as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
Time with Our Elders is an event that provides valuable insights and inspiration to the youth to learn from the experiences of elders.
