The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, paid a pastoral visit to St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Golf City, on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

During the visit, the Archbishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 56 candidates, strengthening them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and urging them to be “courageous witnesses of Christ in word and action.”

Preaching at the Mass, Archbishop Kwofie reflected on St. Paul’s letter to Philemon.
He said, “Paul sent Onesimus back to his master not as a slave but as a brother. This is the Christian way to see one another as brothers and sisters, never as slaves.”

He also drew lessons from the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus calls his followers to carry their crosses.

The Archbishop explained, “To be a disciple of Christ is to make hard choices. It means preferring Christ above even family and possessions. It is not hatred, but putting Christ first in everything.”

Encouraging the newly confirmed, he added, “The cross is not a sign of shame but a sign of blessing. Carry your cross with faith, honesty, and truth, and you will succeed as disciples of Jesus.”

Archbishop Kwofie also touched on national issues, expressing worry about corruption and payroll fraud.
He said, “When an officer denies a worker his salary because of a bribe, it is not only unjust but inhuman. As Christians, we must live with honesty, compassion, and integrity.”

The visit was filled with joy and thanksgiving as parishioners expressed their joy with the presence of the chief shepherd of the Archdiocese. The Archbishop’s presence inspired the faithful and strengthened the mission of the parish community.
