Catholic Men in Accra Charged to  Strengthen Evangelisation Role

Must read

The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has officially inaugurated the Catholic Men’s Association, with a stirring call to action for men to strengthen their role in evangelisation, service, and nation building.

The ceremony, held at St. Michael Garrison Catholic Church, was graced by the Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, Auxiliary Bishop of Accra.

Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Faith in Action, Strengthening the Role of Catholic Men in Evangelisation and Service,” Peter Amaleboba Esq., lawyer and Catholic lay leader, urged men to embrace leadership rooted in faith, service, and integrity.

Quoting Scripture, he reminded the gathering that Christian leadership is not about domination but service.

He noted, “The light on top of a hill is not louder than the darkness, it is steadier. Leadership must be seen before it is heard, proven before it is promoted.”

Mr. Amaleboba stressed that Catholic men must be prepared for leadership through spiritual discipline, financial responsibility, and consistent service in the family, parish, and nation.

“Without preparation, leadership is hollow. With preparation, men become visible examples of Christ’s love and servants of God’s mission,” he said.

He outlined four key areas where Catholic men must live out their faith in action: In the Family: Upholding fidelity, humility, and prayer as the first act of evangelisation.

He lamented the rising divorce and separation rates in Ghana and challenged men to safeguard the covenant of marriage.

In Work and Public Life: Promoting honesty, mentoring the youth, and creating opportunities for dignified work in the face of high unemployment.

In Protecting the Next Generation: Steering young people away from substance abuse through mentorship, sports, catechesis, and presence.

In Stewardship of Creation: Taking a firm stand against environmental destruction caused by illegal mining (galamsey) and embracing responsible care for the land and resources.

Calling for a new era of Catholic manhood in the Archdiocese, Mr. Amaleboba charged the men, saying, “Let us be lights on the hill, in the kitchen, the workshop, the classroom, the office, and along the riverbank. Prepare before you preside. Serve before you speak. Build before you boast.”

The clergy present commended the initiative, noting that the association will provide a platform for men to deepen their faith, support the mission of the Church, and impact society positively.

The inauguration ended with a solemn commitment from members of the new Catholic Men’s Association to live out their motto of faith, service, and brotherhood in the Church and nation.
