An illustrious son of Alakple, Dumega Sir Kt. Bernard Wisdom Quarshie, is set to receive one of the highest honours conferred by the Catholic Church in recognition of his outstanding service to the Church and society.
Alakple is town in the Anloga District of the Volta Region and located within the Catholic Diocese of Keta-Akatsi.
Dumega Quarshie will be admitted into the Order of St. Gregory the Great, a Papal honour bestowed by the Holy Father upon lay persons and clergy who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the Catholic faith and rendered distinguished service to the Church and humanity.
The announcement was made by the Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Bishop of Ho and Vice President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, during a Thanksgiving Mass marking his 10th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary.
The declaration was made on behalf of the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency Most Rev. Julien Kabore.
Dumega Bernard Wisdom Quarshie, a retired Civil Servant and Chartered Accountant, is widely admired for his integrity, financial prudence, and professional excellence.
Throughout his career in the public service, and even after retirement, he has remained deeply committed to advancing the mission of the Church particularly in the area of financial management and accountability.
In the Diocese of Ho, Mr. Quarshie has offered his expertise and counsel in financial administration, serving as a trusted advisor and resource person in Church-related financial matters. His selfless dedication and competence have contributed significantly to the sound stewardship and development initiatives of the Diocese.
Beyond his professional and ecclesiastical contributions, Dumega Quarshie is celebrated as a family man and community leader. He is married and blessed with four children.
The conferment of the Papal Honour underscores the Catholic Church’s recognition of his enduring commitment, integrity, and faithful service. The Order of St. Gregory the Great stands among the highest distinctions the Pope can bestow, symbolizing a life marked by devotion, leadership, and exemplary Christian witness.
The Diocese of Ho, the Catholic community of Alakple, and indeed the entire Volta Region, are expected to join in celebrating this remarkable achievement of one of their own a man whose life continues to inspire faith, diligence, and service to both God and country.
