“We Cannot Be Church If We Look Up to God and Forget About Humanity”- Archbishop Kwofie

Must read

The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, has once again called on Catholics to unite in funding the three critical projects of the Archdiocese.

In his homily during a pastoral visit to Mary Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Airport West, the Archbishop indicated that building of an Archdiocesan Grotto, the Children’s Hospital at Adjen Kotoku, and a Pastoral Centre, emphasizes their role in the Church’s mission to serve humanity.

Archbishop urged the parishioners to be committed to supporting the Archdiocese’s initiatives, noting that they are “signs that the Church is evangelizing.”

He said, “I would like to speak about the signs that the Church is evangelizing in this or that village or town. The first is, we take the building of schools and hospitals to those who otherwise have to walk miles upon miles to have access to education or health care.”

Highlighting the Church’s role in evangelization through preaching and service, he noted, “We cannot truly be a Church when the Word of God calls us to minister to the sick.”

Archbishop Kwofie also noted that the lack of a Pastoral Centre makes societies in the Archdiocese hold retreats outside Accra.

“For the lack of a Pastoral Centre, Societies such as Christian Mothers, St. Theresa’s, Knights of St. John International, and Ladies Auxiliaries, Knights and Ladies of Marshall, Legion of Mary, Christian Men, go outside our jurisdiction to organize Archdiocesan programs such as retreats or conferences. This can be done here. If anybody comes to Fr. that they want a place that is not our diocese, tell the person you can find a place here”, he added.

Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie also stressed the grotto’s purpose, urging all faithful to “team up together and take up the task, and little by little, we shall achieve it.”

He added, “We shall become a one-sided Church, a Church that knows how to pray but does nothing to ease the suffering of humanity; a Church that knows how to fast but doesn’t care about the environment. But this is not right.”
