“From a Manger to the Saviour of the World” – Rev. Enoch Thompson Calls for Hope during Christmas

Must read

Rev. Enoch Thompson, Vice Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, has encouraged Christians to draw hope from the humble beginnings of Jesus Christ, whose birth in a manger demonstrates that God can transform the most unlikely situations into instruments of salvation.

Reflecting on the Christmas story on December 10, 2025, during the 7th edition of the Conversations in the Cathedral at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, Rev. Thompson noted that although Christ’s coming was foretold in Scripture and announced by angels, He entered the world without glamour or public recognition.

“He did not come on a chariot. He did not come with splendour. He was born in a manger and laid among animals,” he said.

He explained that many people in Jesus’ time failed to recognize God’s purpose for Him because they saw Him as an ordinary person, just as many today overlook God’s work in seemingly insignificant lives.

“You may be walking today as a nobody, but if you can trust God, you never know what your life will become tomorrow,” he said.

Rev. Thompson stressed that Christmas should inspire hope, especially for the poor, the marginalized, and those who feel forgotten.

“The same God who allowed Jesus to be born in a manger gave Him a name above every name,” he added.

He warned, however, that excessive familiarity with Christmas celebrations can cause believers to lose sight of its deeper meaning.

“If we miss God’s redemptive plan at Christmas, we end up only eating, drinking, and celebrating without understanding the essence,” he cautioned.

He urged Christians to use the Christmas season as a time of self-examination, repentance, and spiritual renewal as they prepare for the coming year.
