“Joseph’s Example Still Speaks to Fathers Today” – Rev. Thompson

Must read

Rev. Enoch Thompson, Vice Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, has called on fathers to emulate the patience, compassion, and responsibility demonstrated by Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at the 7th edition of the Conversations in the Cathedral at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Rev. Thompson highlighted Joseph’s quiet obedience and faith, noting that despite his initial confusion over Mary’s pregnancy, he chose to trust God’s instruction.

“Joseph accepted a child who was not biologically his and raised him with love and responsibility,” he said.

Rev. Thompson noted that the Gospel of Mark even refers to Jesus as a carpenter, suggesting that Joseph not only cared for Him but also trained Him in a trade.

“That tells us how deeply Joseph lived with Jesus as a father,” he explained.

Drawing lessons for modern families, he said, fatherhood requires patience, understanding, and humility, especially when correcting children.

“We sometimes forget that we ourselves made mistakes when we were young,” he observed.

He reminded fathers that God does not abandon His children because of their failures, but continues to love and accept them, a model fathers should follow in their own homes.

Beyond family life, Rev. Thompson urged Christians to be open-hearted and compassionate, especially toward those burdened by past pain and emotional struggles.

“People carry wounds they cannot easily talk about,” he said, encouraging believers to offer prayer, listening ears, and understanding hearts.

He concluded by calling on Christians to allow Christ to live through them, explaining that Christmas is not only about celebrating Christ’s birth but also about reflecting His life through love, patience, and service.

“Christmas allows us to realign our lives with God’s purpose,” he said.
