Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Parish at Community One, Tema, has made significant strides in welfare, formation, charity, and infrastructure development, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Chairman, Mr. Joseph Skuggen, has said.

Speaking during the pastoral visit of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Mr. Skuggen said the Parish had finalised its strategic growth path with the support of parish priests, councillors, and past leaders, and had shared it with all group leaders to ensure collective ownership and progress.

He disclosed that the parish welfare scheme was fully operational, with 625 parishioners enrolled and currently renewing their membership for 2026. According to him, education in church teachings, spirituality, and the responsibilities of the laity remained a key focus for the parish in 2025.

Mr. Skuggen noted that OLAM Parish had remained consistent with its annual Lenten charity and pilgrimage activities, supporting needy Catholic homes and institutions, with future donations to be directed towards the Legacy of Hope project. He also highlighted the introduction of quarterly leadership seminars to assess performance and introduce initiatives to strengthen parish groups.

On sacramental life, he announced that 80 candidates had completed catechesis and were ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. He further reported that the first phase of the four-storey multipurpose building, initiated during the parish’s 70th anniversary celebrations, had been completed and scheduled for commissioning.

Touching on the future, Mr. Skuggen outlined long-term plans including the renovation of the Anchor of Hope Social Centre, improvement of washrooms, continuation of the multipurpose building project, and the acquisition of a new parish vehicle. He emphasized that unity, faith, and commitment remained essential as the parish moved forward.
