For those members of the Ghanaian public who are connoisseurs of vocal talent, you absolutely must not miss the musical offering that will take place on Saturday, January 10th, 6 pm, at the British Council Hall on Liberia Hall, Accra.
For one night only, legendary songstress Angela Watson from New York City (‘la sua voce magica’) will be joined on stage by Cameroonian tenor sensation Guy Bertrand K, and the extraordinary Nigerian lyric tenor Kelvin Uhondo.
They will be supported in the orchestra pit by pianist George Francois from Ashesi University, clarinetist Keyara Fleece, band teacher at Lincoln School, among others.
The program is a superlative collection of favourites.
The first half of the program, dedicated to classical voice, presents solos, duets, and trios of works by Rossini, Puccini, Nino Rota, Giordani, Gershwin, and Leonard Cohen’s famous Hallelujah.
The second half features Gospel classics by Mahalia Jackson, Luther Barnes, the Clark Sisters, Richard Smallwood, Brooklyn Tabernacle, and Edwin Hawkins.
This concert is titled, ‘For Every Mountain – Classical Meets Gospel’.
It falls on the 53rd birthday of New Horizon, which started on January 10th, 1972, with three students in the home of Founder Madame Salome Anyorkor François, of blessed memory.
The concert title reflects Madame Francois’ deep abiding faith and belief that for every obstacle (mountain) there’s a corresponding blessing and reason to say “Hallelujah!”.
The concert is a musical expression of deep gratitude and praise to God for helping New Horizon overcome the impossible challenges, trials, and difficulties they have faced in their lifetime.
The concert is organized by the New Horizon Special School and by La Foundation for the Arts (LAFA), to raise funds to support Educational and Art Therapy programs.
The New Horizon Special School has been an institution focused on special education in Ghana for 53 years.
LAFA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to artistic excellence and cultural preservation.
