Apostolic Nuncio Urges Catholics to Rediscover True Happiness Through the Beatitudes

Must read

The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Julien Kaboré, has called on Catholics to rethink society’s definition of happiness, urging them to embrace the Gospel values of the Beatitudes as the true path to fulfilment.

Delivering a homily during a Eucharistic celebration at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Tema, on Sunday, 1st February, 2026, the Nuncio reflected on the Beatitudes from the Gospel of St. Luke, describing them as a “portrait” of the true disciple of Christ.

“The Beatitudes are therefore not a general moral teaching addressed to all in the same way; they describe the inner face of the disciple,” he explained, adding that they “reveal who we are called to be if we truly follow Christ.”

He stressed that Christian happiness is not rooted in wealth, power, or public recognition, noting that; “the disciple does not place his joy in possessions, influence, or public recognition. He receives life as a gift.”

According to the Nuncio, poverty of spirit is not a social condition but a spiritual posture. “It is not first of all a sociological category; it is a spiritual posture,” he said, explaining that such poverty makes the heart “humble, open, and free from rigidity.”

He noted that when disciples surrender to Christ’s vision, they experience a joy that endures beyond circumstances.

“This is the decisive sign of authentic discipleship: the joy of the heart… a joy that remains even amid difficulty,” he said

The Nuncio challenged the faithful to examine where they seek happiness, stressing that “where Christ truly reigns, there is joy,” and that only a life anchored in God can provide lasting peace.
