Girls’ Dormitory Project Takes Centre Stage at Kpong Our Lady Fatima School Silver Jubilee Launch

A strong call for partnership and investment in girl-child education dominated the launch of the 25th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School at Kpong in Ghana’s Eastern Region, as the school unveiled an ambitious GH¢700,000 legacy project aimed at building a girls’ dormitory.

The project, a proposed girls’ dormitory, was introduced during a colourful ceremony held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, drawing clergy, education authorities, development partners, parents, and alumni.

The Headmistress of Our Lady of Fatima, Sr. Paulina Osei, described the initiative as a strategic intervention to strengthen discipline, academic focus, and holistic Catholic formation among female students, while expanding access to quality education.

“We humbly invite all stakeholders to partner with us to bring this dream to reality,” she appealed, noting that the project is expected to be completed before the climax of the anniversary celebrations in October.

According to her, the school’s journey from a modest beginning with seven girls from Agormanya to a respected academic and moral training centre highlights the need for sustained support to meet growing demands.

She emphasized that the institution’s mission extends beyond academic instruction to nurturing character, faith, and leadership through catechesis, youth ministry, cultural activities, public speaking, sports, and creative arts.

The anniversary launch, themed “Silver Jubilee of Learning, Discipline and Holistic Catholic Education,” also celebrated the school’s track record in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), district and regional academic competitions, and the achievements of its alumni in various professional fields.

Rev. Msgr. Francis Twum Barimah, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua and special guest of honour, officially launched the anniversary and offered prayers for the continued growth of the school.

A symbolic unveiling of the anniversary logo and commemorative cloth marked the start of the year-long celebrations, while cultural performances by students showcased the institution’s emphasis on talent development and creativity.

Among dignitaries present were Rev. Sr. Elizabeth Paula Nkansah Otchere, HDR, Superior General of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer Sisters; Hon. John Atteh Matey, Municipal Director of Education; Mr. Jude Adjare, Regional Manager of the Catholic Education Unit; and Ing. Philip Tetteh Padi of the Volta River Authority, all of whom pledged support for the school’s development agenda.

Sr. Osei also highlighted infrastructure gains made through partnerships over the years, including new classrooms, renovated facilities, a functional computer and science laboratory, upgraded sanitation facilities, and a music theatre to be commissioned later this year. She further acknowledged the support of St. Martin Hospital for providing regular healthcare services to learners.

She expressed appreciation to teachers, parents, alumni, churches, NGOs, and community leaders for sustaining the school’s growth, describing their contributions as essential to its success story.

“As we celebrate 25 years, we are not only reflecting on our past achievements but preparing for a stronger future that will continue to mould disciplined, faith-filled and academically sound young people,” she said.

The silver jubilee activities will run throughout the year and culminate in a grand celebration in October 2026.
