Knights of St. John Supports Catholic Bishop in Ghana

Upon an appeal by the Catholic Bishop of Yendi, the Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, the 13th District Commandery and District 2 Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) have supported the Catholic Prelate to complete the construction of the Bishop’s retirement house which is at roofing level.

Bishop Vincent Boi-Nai who clocked 75 on January 1, 2020 awaiting his retirement, was consecrated Bishop of Yendi on July 10, 1999. He was ordained on August 13, 1977.

The Joint District delegation of the Knights and Ladies Auxiliary was led by Colonel Joseph Bapule, the 13th District Commander who presented an undisclosed amount to support the Bishop to aid him roof the building.

At the presentation ceremony were the District Chaplain, 1st Lt. (Fr) Carolus Magnus Gambogi; and 1st Lt. Elias Dery, the Adjutant.

The others were the District 2 President, Noble Sister Faustina Dery, 1st Vice President; Noble Sister Vivian Ayamba, and the Secretary; Sister Christiana Amalba.

The Vicar General of the Yendi Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. David Kajal; the Financial Administrator of the Diocese, Fr. Jonas Kuubeta and the Bishop’s Secretary, Fr. Pius Binchantim Laten were also present at the presentation.

Bishop Boi-Nai, expressed utmost gratitude to the Knights of St. John International for the kind gesture and acknowledged the fact that the Knights of St. John has always come to his aid any time he called on them.

He said during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone has admitted that “we are not in normal times.”

In a brief remark, a Past District Commander, Brigadier General (Sir) Joseph Charles Osei, said that the 13th District and Ladies District 2 is made up of Commanderies and Auxiliaries in the Tamale Archdiocese and Damongo Diocese.

He stated that the Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary operate at the parish levels to support in terms of financial, material and participation in the Church’s evangelization activities to the Catholic Church, the Bishops and Priests for the growth of parishes and dioceses.

Colonel Joseph Bapule also stated that, one of the pillars of the Knights of St. John International is Charity works focused on providing support to the Bishops and Priests.

He noted that though the appeal of the Bishop came during the time they were entering the Lenten season, they were really challenged as Knights to consider it as part of their Lenten obligation as they were advised by 1st. Lt. (Fr) Carolus Magnus Gambogi the District Chaplain.
