Must read

The St. James Catholic Church, Osu has climaxed activities marking its golden jubilee anniversary celebrations with a thanksgiving Mass held at the parish on Sunday.

This followed series of activities Adoration, Mass for the Sacraments of Baptism and First Holy Communion, choral and awards night and talks as well as others.

The anniversary among others served as a medium of evangelisation as well as the celebration of the goodness of God.

Speaking at the Thanksgiving Mass, the Chairman of the St. James Parish Pastoral Council, Mr Prince Agbodjan, emphasised that the journey of 50 years from 1971 to 2021 in the church is worth celebrating. He remembered the 5 decades the church had journeyed through with the challenges, hopes as well as opportunities there have been for families and the community of worshippers.

The Homilist, Rev. Fr. John Amoah, Dean of Osu Deanery of the Archdiocese of Accra, stressed the need for Christians to look out for the good of their neighbours.

“Once we start to look at the king of the world, we are leaving for the future we look at things differently”, He pointed out.

“The world is a gift which we have freely received and must share it with others.”, he stressed.

Outlining the benefits of the sacrifice to be there for one another, Fr. John Amoah reminded the faithful of how God multiplied for his people in the 1st and 2nd readings while thanking God for 50 years in the life of the Church.

“God has truly multiplied by His Grace and transformed these many sacrifices by our pioneering priests, catechists and our generous parishioners into this day, this moment this event, this sanctuary that feeds a multitude of God’s faithful,” he said.

As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, Mr. Prince Agbodjan, the Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council made a presentation to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie for his devoted service to the Lord and to the growth of St. James Catholic Church over the years.

In addition, a cheque of GH¢ 300,000 was donated by the St. James Parish as a fulfilment of a pledge made to the Archbishop for the commencement of the construction of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Afuaman, a suburb of Accra.

There were several other donations made by the 2020 Vice Presidential Aspirant of NDC, Prof. Nana Opoku Aygemang, MP for North Tongu, Hon Okudjeto Ablakwah, Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanteng, the president of the Ghana Bar Association Anthony Forson Jnr. among others.
