The Catholic Youth Council executives of the newly formed Battor-Ada Deanery in the Archdiocese of Accra have organized a maiden Youth Prayer Summit for the youth within the deanery with call on them to be steadfast in the Lord, be the hope for each other and not fall below the standards.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Enyonam Dorgbetor, a Youth Chaplain at the Keta-Akatsi Diocesan Christ the King Cathedral, who was the guest speaker of the summit called on the youth to “remain steadfast in the Lord, for even in their brokenness, they are useful.”
He touched on several steps to take to encourage each other and grow together in the Lord which included surrendering everything to God, believing in the word of God, praying fervently without ceasing, through testimonies by others and in fellowship with one another.
The programme which took place on Sunday, September 25, 2022 was held at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Vume and was anchored on the theme: “Encouraging and Growing Together in Christ” (Heb. 3:13).
The programme which was the first of its kind to be organised in the deanery was interspersed with a series of activities such as choreography performances, the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Divine Mercy prayers, praise and worship, song ministrations, an exhortation of the word, intercessory prayers and many more.
In attendance were about 360 youths comprising a couple of Seminarians and members of the youth from St. Dominic Guzman (Dawhenya), St. Martin De-Porres (New Dawhenya), St. Maria Goretti (Battor), St. Mary (Koluedor), St. Peter Claver (Ada Foah) and St. Joseph the Worker, Vume (host church).
Also participating were some parents, guardians, old men and women from these churches to grace the event.
Focusing on the theme of the Prayer Summit, Fr. Dorgbetor told the youth that in order to remain steadfast in Christ, they need to give all they are and have to God and He would “patch all the brokenness according to His will and propose for you”.
He added, “The Catholic youth who prays together shall not only stay together but grow, glow and shine together as well,” and noted that even in their unfortunate situation, it was possible to get a brother or sister to grow since the greatest source of spiritual growth is experienced through trials.
He urged them to keep awake and watch always because the devil comes in with discouragements through misunderstandings.
Present too at the summit was the Youth Chaplain of the Battor-Ada Deanery, Rev. Fr. Isaac Adofo.
