Facilitators at a five-day media training for Sister Communicators in Ghana have urged Religious Congregations in Ghana to make every effort to equip themselves to tell their own stories to world.
The facilitators urged the religious sisters to make good use of social media to promote their Congregations and to preach the gospel of Christ.
Mr. Robert Dela Mawwuenyegah, the Editor of Newswachgh.com, who was one of the facilitators of the training at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal, Kumasi, encouraged Superiors of Congregations to strengthen their communication bureaus to propagate the good things being done by them.
The training was organised by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana in collaboration with Global NewsWatch Media and Communications.
Held from January 16 to 20, 2023, it was to train and equip Sisters with the required skills in writing, photography, videography and the use of social media.
It was also to help various religious congregations publicise their works and apostolates for the world to know about them and appreciate their works.
Mr. Mawuenyegah urged the Sisters to develop their communication skills through interviews and story writing so that others would better understand the works they do.
“If you fail to communicate effectively, there would be follow-up questions,” he stated.
Mr. Damian Avevor, Supervising Editor of newswatchgh.com enlightened the sisters on how to tell their stories by writing them for publication. He took them through the basics of news and feature writing, house styles of Catholic Media institutions.
Touching on qualities of news, Mr. Avevor, advised the Sisters to ensure their stories news stories are factual devoid of any misconception.
“A report or an account of a story can only be classified as news when it has the qualities of clarity, truthfulness, accuracy, conciseness and simplicity,” he said, adding, “All news presented should be factual, truthful, informative and educative.”
He emphasised that “News must be concise,and unambiguous.”
Mr. Benedictus Adzah, a facilitator, educated the 21 Sisters on how to take good photographs and videos with their phones and cameras. This was to help them take photographs of their works and activities and to let the world know about them.
