Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organisation (NABOCADO) under the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo- Bolgatanga of Ghana has launched a five year advocacy plan that seeks to influence public policy delivery for the poor and vulnerable groups in the Upper East and North-East Regions.

The initiative focuses on improving education and health infrastructure development and is expected to expedite the needed response and change by policymakers and implementers within these areas.

Speaking at the launch in Bolgatanga, Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese noted that the plan was developed through various stakeholders’ consultations and will address the teething challenges identified in various communities of its catchment areas.

“This advocacy plan resonates with my vision and aspirations for NABOCADO, therefore, I have committed to providing the needed leadership and guidance to ensure that it is implemented properly and contribute to transforming lives in the communities.”

Bishop Agyenta stressed that the objectives of the plan will begin to reflect in the annual work plans of the respective directorates under NABOCADO and shall be the basis of their performance appraisals.

Appreciating the immense support and partnership by the Hungarian Government through its Hungary Helps program, Bishop Agyenta, however, urged stakeholders to give the plan the needed attention and support for it to enhance service delivery to the beneficiary communities.

The Hungary Secretary of State, Tristan Azbej who was present at the launch, also urged stakeholders to support the initiative as the people and government of Hungary will at all times support to champion improved education and health services in rural areas of Ghana.

Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu also assured the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocesan Development Organisation of Government’s support to the agenda as it is in line with the government of Ghana’s plans to improve quality education and health in rural areas.

Since 1981, Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organisation has been championing rural development in most communities in the Upper East and North-East Regions.

The Human Development Coordinator of NABOCADO, Dr Joseph Ayembilla, also reiterated that plan will aid in an evidence-based approach and the implementation of social accountability mechanisms in the project zone.

Dr Ayembilla, however, states that the allocation of resources, community participation and empowerment, poor access to quality and affordable health and education services will be the main agenda for the plan to achieve.
