The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has inducted new executives for the Accra Archdiocesan Laity Council at a Mass at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Airport West in Accra on April 6, 2025.
The newly constituted Accra Archdiocesan Laity Council leadership inducted by Rev. Fr. Osmund Kudoloh, Parish Priest of Mary Mother of Good Counsel is made up of Mr. John Komla Kekeli Dzedze (KKD) Mensah, Chairman; Ms. Aba Amissah Quainoo, Mr. Daniel Sasu, Mr. Francis Fiifi Akrong, Vice Chairpersons; Ms. Genevieve Lilian Amuzu, Secretary; Mrs. Thrasilla Dontoh Apienti, Financial Secretary; Augustine K. Dagbey, Youth Representative; and Mrs. Mary Ashun Baffour, Women Representative.
Fr. Kudoloh congratulated the new leadership of the laity and tasked them to work in unity and for the good to the Church.
Touching on the readings of the day, he reminded the faithful that “while we are all sinners, everyone has the potential to become a saint, saying, “We are all sinners in this world, but we are potential saints one day.”
He emphasised that judgment belongs solely to God and encouraged all to reflect on their own lives rather than focusing on the wrongdoings of others.
Fr. Kudoloh assured the congregation that no sin is too great to be forgiven, while describing the season of Lent as a time for making amends, and taking the opportunity to seek God’s guidance and mercy.
Sharing his vision, for the archdiocese, K. K. D. Mensah, said, “I want majority of the lay faithful to understand who they really are and where they fit in, in the church”.
“In every aspect of life, wherever and whatever you are called to do, if you understand it well, you can discharge your role dutifully and tactfully”, he added.
He further stated that, information was very crucial to the lay faithful and through effective information dissemination, the lay faithful would be well informed to understand the practices and traditions of the Church.
Mr. K.K.D. Mensah also stated that the current leadership of the Laity Council would coordinate to bring innovative educational and spiritual activities to its community of lay faithful and professionals to be formed and well informed and to get help them get a better understanding of the Catholic faith and its doctrines.
He assured that the Council will involve all the lay groups and societies of the Archdiocese in different activities and programs as a way of getting everyone to learn, know, be informed and formed to affect their individual and collective lives to move the church forward.
He also said that there will be collaborations with the youth as they are the foundation of the Church.
He said, “We are going to collaborate with the youth in every aspect,” adding that there is a representative of the youth to the Council.
He called on the clergy to effectively collaborate with the Laity Council at all levels to help with the formation of the Lay Faithful who are Collaborators in the Pastoral Care and Ministry of the Church.
