The Accra Archdiocesan Priests Association of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra staged a play titled “The Prophet of Doom,” which took place on 9 March 2025 at Christ the King Parish, Cantonments in Accra.
This event by the Priest’s Association was not the first of its kind and was aimed at soliciting funds to complete the Legacy of Hope project initiated by the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra.
In attendance was the Grace Choral Group who sung some selected solemn and melodious songs during the event.
Rev. Fr. Raymond Osei-Tutu, Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra and Pastor of Ss. Anne & Joachim Church at Teshie, played the leading role of the Prophet Jeremiah and captivated the audience with his performance.
The play draws inspiration from the Book of Jeremiah, emphasizing the prophet’s warnings to the people of Israel at the time and highlights the ongoing relevance of these messages in Ghana’s current political climate.
It serves as a reflective commentary on today’s societal attitudes, suggesting that many of the challenges faced today relate with those of Jeremiah’s time.
The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp expressed gratitude to the audience for their massive turnout and underscored the dual nature of Jeremiah as both a prophet of doom and a prophet of hope.
He added, “It is not a coincidence that the Church has declared the year to be a Jubilee Year. Whether we are priest or religious or lay faithful or the president, or a king, whatever we are, may we take the lessons by stage play serious to defeat any reoccurring attitude in the days of Jeremiah so that we don’t put ourselves in slavery as they did.”
