The Accra Archdiocesan Seminarian Union (AASU) held its annual Breakfast Meeting on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the St. James Catholic Church, Osu, bringing together priests, seminarians, and members of the Christian Mothers’ Association in an atmosphere of joy and fraternity.
The annual event, organised with the strong support of the Christian Mothers’ Association (CMA) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra and under the patronage of the Metropolitan Archbishop, was attended by the Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp; an Auxiliary Bishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Kobina Louis; the Vocations Director; Priests; CMA members; and seminarians from St. Peter’s Seminary, Pedu; St. Paul’s Seminary, Sowutuom; and Pope John Senior High Seminary, as well as international seminarians.
Welcoming the participants, the Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr. Filton Mensah, expressed the parish’s delight at hosting the event.

He commended the Christian Mothers’ Association for its over 30 years of unwavering support for seminary formation. He encouraged the seminarians to live lives worthy of the high expectations placed upon them.
Delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. Frederick Kofi Doe, Assistant Priest at the St. James Catholic Church, Osu, urged seminarians to cultivate patience and faith in their vocational journey, drawing inspiration from Simeon, who waited faithfully to witness the manifestation of Christ in the Temple.
“Wait well in the presence of God so that you can see the manifestation of Christ in your life,” he said.

He reminded them that seminarians and priests are “like poles meant to attract others to Christ” and cautioned them not to lose faith despite challenges.
In his address, Archbishop Kwofie expressed profound gratitude to the Christian Mothers for their continued care and prayers for seminarians. He appealed for increased support, particularly for international seminarians from countries such as Benin and Côte d’Ivoire, who may not have family support while studying in Ghana.

Touching on the impact of social media on priestly life, the Archbishop observed that the unrealistic standards often placed on priests can be emotionally draining.
He encouraged the faithful to pray for and support their priests proactively, rather than waiting until challenges arise. Addressing the seminarians, he urged them to remain steadfast in moral integrity and faithful to the teachings of the Church.
On his party, Bishop Louis also commended the Christian Mothers for their generosity and commitment to priestly formation, reminding seminarians that the priesthood demands sacrifice.

“To become good priests requires sacrifice,” he said.
He cautioned against what he described as the “Judas phenomenon,” urging seminarians to avoid becoming agents or victims of actions that could harm the Church.
“Let us be careful not to become victims or agents of the Judas phenomenon that seeks to destroy the Church,” he warned.

He stressed that the Church belongs to God, not to individuals or bishops, and emphasized that financial wealth is not a prerequisite for priesthood.
The Archdiocesan Vocations Director, Very Rev. Fr. Edmund Ekow Neizer, appealed to Christian Mothers to keep seminarians constantly in their prayers, encouraging them to support their spiritual growth through devotion, particularly the recitation of the Rosary alongside material assistance.
On behalf of the Accra Archdiocesan Christian Mothers’ Association (CMA), the Archdiocesan President, Mother Eunice Dumashie, presented first aid supplies to the St. Paul’s Seminary, Sowutuom, to support the health and well-being of the seminarians. She noted that spending time with the seminarians brings them inner joy and peace and urged them to live exemplary lives worthy of their calling.

She added that the breakfast meeting reaffirmed the Archdiocese’s commitment to nurturing future priests through prayer, sacrifice, and collective support.
The Christian Mothers also organised a second collection in aid of a bus, and they would be raising funds to support further.
