The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has officially launched the Promoting Micro-enterprises for Efficient Poverty Reduction (PROMIC) Programme to improve the lives of people, especially women in need, through economic empowerment.

The event took place at the Mary, Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Airport West, Accra, on Wednesday, April 24, 2025, attended by distinguished guests and parishioners from the Parish.

The Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of Accra, in his address, shared greetings and blessings from Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp and expressed joy about the programme’s potential to transform lives.

He emphasised that this project aims to support the productive poor in the Archdiocese by creating opportunities for growth and development.

Bishop Asare added, “By providing small loans and financial services to individuals who lack access to traditional banking systems, we empower women to start and grow their businesses, contributing to their families’ well-being and the broader community.”

The PROMIC Programme began at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Akweteman, Accra and has since expanded.

Despite facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project succeeded in the Kaneshie Deanery since March 2021.

The launch of the Kpehe Deanery PROMIC Project marks further progress toward establishing the programme in all deaneries within the Archdiocese.

The Chairman of Swisshand, Mr. Stefan Moesli, also shared his joy in working in Ghana and partnering on the PROMIC Programme.

He expressed satisfaction with the impact the project has made, especially in changing the lives of productive women by providing them with capital and training to support their businesses and personal growth.

Bishop Asare acknowledged the vital support of the Swisshand Foundation from Switzerland, whose financial contributions have been crucial to the growth of the programme.

He called on all stakeholders to get involved, stressing that collaboration is key to the success and long-term impact of the PROMIC Programme

He urged everyone to move forward with commitment, unity, and a vision for a better future for all in the Archdiocese.
