Must read

The Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Council has officially launched the 2025 Accra Version of World Youth Day (WYD) at the Catholic Youth Formation Centre at Lashibi on November, 24 2024, Solemity of Christ the King and World Youth Day.

The launch was led by Augustine Dagbey, Chairman of the Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Council (AADCYC), under the theme, “You also are my witnesses, because you have been with me” (John 15:27) which marks the beginning of a year-long journey for the youth of the Archdiocese as they prepare for the celebration scheduled for November 21-22, 2025, in Kordiabe under the Ashaiman Deanery.

In his address, Augustine Dagbey emphasized the importance of the theme for the upcoming WYD, urging young Catholics to embrace their role as active participants in Jesus’ mission, calling them to share His love and truth through their daily lives.

He said, “We are chosen to be witnesses, not spectators,” … “Our actions must reflect diligence, compassion, and service.”

He also reminded them of the empowering presence of Christ through His Word and in the Eucharist. “Though challenges may arise, we are equipped by the Holy Spirit to stand firm in faith and bring hope to others,” he added. “The world needs courageous witnesses who will stand for truth, justice, and love”, he said.

The World Youth Day celebration is a global Catholic celebration which was initiated by Pope St. John Paul II in 1985, designed to engage young people in faith and community activities.

In preparation for WYD 2025, there are a series of activities aimed at fostering spiritual growth and encouraging evangelization.

The WYD Cross and the ICON of Perpetual Help will tour all eight deaneries, beginning with Osu Deanery, to create awareness and raise funds for the event. All youth chaplains and PYC executives are encouraged to gather at designated points around their churches to receive these sacred emblems.

Additionally, a WYD logo challenge for youths under 35 years with graphic design skills, will be organized for them to contribute creatively to this important occasion.

An anthem contest will also be open to youth music ministries and choirs. The anthem should reflect the theme, incorporating references to Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, the Accra Archdiocese, and the local youth community.

With the upcoming Jubilee Year of Hope in 2025 and the Youth Jubilee celebrations, from July 28 to August 31, this serves as an opportunity for the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra to prepare its youth for a transformative experience at WYD.
