Must read

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie has hosted about 30 guests at his residence in Accra in the first of a series of ten planned intimate sessions.

The event on February 27, 2022 was to share more details of the first of his Legacy of Hope vision project, which is the construction of a Paediatric and childhood Cancer specialist Hospital, at Kwabenya, a collaboration with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.

On January 16, 2022, the Archbishop launched the “Legacy of Hope” projects in the Archdiocese with the subsequent sod-cutting of the Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, January 18 at Atomic-Kwabenya, which is first of the Legacy of Hope Projects .

At the February 27 evening fundraiser, the keynote guest speaker was Dr. Nihad Salifu, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist and the Head of the Paediatric Oncology Unit at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and supported by Dr. Emmanuel Paabi Abbeyquaye, Specialist Paediatrician and the Head of the Paediatrics Division of the 37 Military Hospital.

Dr. Salifu shared some statistics of childhood cancer in Ghana and the lack of adequate resources in this field to save more lives. She thanked the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra for this vision and committed her support to the project.

At the event, GHc139,100.00 and $3,000  were raised bringing the total of the $2m target to 378,790.20.

In appreciation, Archbishop Kwofie said, “I cannot thank everyone who supported this maiden event enough. Thank you for your generous donation and most importantly for taking time out of your schedule to spend an evening with me. May God bless you all, Amen.”

On same day of the fundraising event, during his maiden pastoral visit to Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) Parish at New Achimota, the Archbishop made a passionate appeal to Catholics in the Archdiocese and beyond to support the “Legacy of Hope” Projects

“I wish to invite you all, to join me on this journey, and by being a part of this vision, together we can leave a wonderful legacy for our children,” he appealed.

In his March 2, 2022 Lenten Pastoral Letter,  Archbishop Kwofie also asked the people of God of the Archdiocese to use this Lenten Season to commit themselves to the realisation of the construction of Children’s Hospital in Accra.

“In this Lenten Season, I wish to encourage every Catholic in the Archdiocese to make a commitment to donate towards the realization of the construction of the Children’s Hospital,” he said in a Lenten Pastoral Letter to all Christ’s Faithful.

The Accra Prelate stated, “the Lenten practices of fasting and almsgiving go hand-in-hand, the monies we save through fasting should be committed to almsgiving/charity. And the Children’s Hospital project affords us a unique opportunity to be charitable to many children across several future generations.”

He assured the people of God that “The Lord will certainly reward in abundance all who cheerfully give towards this impactful legacy project. Here is His assurance to all: “give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.”

“I wish to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to the organisers of the sod-cutting event, parishes, church associations, organizations, families, and individuals who cheerfully donated or pledged various sums of money on the occasion,” said Archbishop Kwofie.
