Four past National Presidents of the Christian Mothers’ Association from the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra were among the list of awardees at the national congress of the Association held in Tamale this year for serving and excelling in their performances as leaders at various periods.
The awardees are the late Mother Victoria Hughes, first National President from the Mamprobi Deanery from 1976 to 1987; Mother Mary Kpodotsi from 1988 to 1997; the late Mother Huberta Dickson from 1998 to 2000; and Mother Anna Mensah, immediate past National President from 2016 to 2022.

At the Tamale Congress, Accra Archdiocese was awarded a plaque as the most promising Diocese in Ghana, and the Accra Archdiocesan President, Mother Eunice Kokui Dumashie, was elected as the National Secretary.
Meanwhile, at the Patronal Feast Day celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Accra CMA at the St. Bakhita Catholic Church at Lashibi Community 20 on Saturday, December 13, 2025, the leadership awarded some members of the Association and immediate past leaders for their tremendous support to the group in the past three years.

The immediate past Archdiocesan executives who were awarded include Mother Matilda Deku of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Baatsonaa; Mother Paulina Darko of Holy Family, Mataheko; Mother Charity Grace Haywood-Amartey of St. Theresa Parish, North Kaneshie; Mother Helena Apaloo of St. Theresa Parish, North Kaneshie and Rita Osei-Bonsu, St. John the Baptist Parish, Odorkor.
Also, two Mothers, Lydia Antonio from St. Theresa in the Kaneshie Deanery and Florence Djanie from St. Luke in the Ashaiman Deanery, received special awards for serving their deaneries with selfless dedication and love, while Mother Agnes Tweneboah-Kodua, the current Financial Secretary, received an award for her hard work from the Archdiocesan President, Mother Eunice Dumashie.

The Christian Mothers’ Association of Ghana (CMA) is a National Women’s Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the Catholic Church. CMA was formed in the early 1940s by a group of eminent spiritualists for the spiritual and material advancement of orthodox religious women in Ghana.
In the past, emphasis was placed on religious activities only. In the early 1960s, a Social Worker from Germany by the name Dr. Helga Kleinkowski, with the help of some Ghanaian Nuns re-organized the Christian Mothers’ Association of Ghana to also cater to the socioeconomic needs of members.

With the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) of Germany, through the above-mentioned Social Worker, an office which used to be the Head office was established in Ghana in 1966.
In 1976, a National Body was formed together with the election of Executives who were specially detailed to champion the course of the Christian Mothers’ Association of Ghana. With the help of the National Executives, the existing constitution was drawn.
Past National Presidents of the Association are Late Mother Victoria Hughes- 1976-1987-Accra; Mother Mary Philomena Kpodotsi- 1988-1997-Accra; Late Mother Huberta Dickson- 1998-2000-Accra; Mother Dame Augustina P. Boachie- 2001-2006-Kumasi; Mother Fidelia Dorleku- 2007-2009-Jasikan; Mother Clare Der -2010-2012-Wa; Mother Cecilia Quansah- 2013-2015-Goaso and Mother Anna A. Mensah – 2016-2022-Accra. The current National President is Mother Hannah Essuman from the Kumasi Archdiocese.
