Accra’s Archbishop Kwofie leads Condolence Visit to Ministry of Defence

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, on behalf of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has visited the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Ghana to sign the Book of Condolence for the tragic demise of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defense who died in a helicopter crash with 7 others on the 6th August, 2025

The wreath laying ceremony took place at the main entrance of the Ministry of Defense on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Present at the ceremony was the Deputy Minister of Defense, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Dr. Justice Srem Sai and the Chief Director for the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Emmanuel Kartey.

The other dignitaries present were Very Rev. Fr. Clement Adjei, Secretary General of the National Catholic Secretariat, Rev. Fr. Derrick Hammond Dowuona, Secretary to the Catholic Archbishop of Accra, Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, Ag. Director for the Department of Social Communications of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra and the Management, Senior Officers and Staff of the Ministry of Defense

In a short reflection,  Archbishop Kwofie stated that, it is important to honour the fallen heroes due to their service to the country.

He said, “Our Brothers have gone to the Lord. We need people like them to fight and defend the Country. They’re our heroes and we should be proud of them and honour them.”

Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Minister of Defense during the ceremony expressed gratitude to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for sympathizing with the Ministry in their time of grief.

He said, “I want to thank all of you for making time to participate in this short ceremony… To the Catholic Bishops’ Conference we are most grateful for condoling with us in this moment of pain and grief”.

He encouraged all to continue to support the ministry by mourning with them.

“Let us continue to be in the mood of mourning. We have to be strong but we still have to mourn our departed souls”, he added.

A wreath was also laid by the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Dr. Justice Srem Sai and the Chief Director for the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Emmanuel Kartey.
