Accra St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Society Holds Food Bazaar

The St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Society in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has organised a food bazaar as part of activities to mark its 25th Anniversary in a bid to invigorate the society and to sharpen the cooking skills of the members.

The event which took place on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Nicolson Park at Burma Camp, Accra, was also to foster peace, love and unity among members. It was preceded with an aerobic session to keep them fit and healthy.

It was a day of showcasing of local dishes by the various Deaneries such as “Waakye,” Jollof Rice, “Konkonte and “fufu” with groundnut and light soups respectively, “Ampesi with “Nkontomire” and garden egg stew,”  “Banku” and Okro stew and Tilapia, Kenkey and fried fish, “Tuo Zaafi,” among others.

The hundreds of members from the Mamprobi, Madina, Kaneshie, Kpehe, Osu, Tema and Ashaiman Deaneries were led by their Presidents and Coordinators to the bazaar grounds.

Varieties of the local foods displayed by the various Deaneries were inspected by Dame Obaapanin Gloria Kwasie, founder of the Society in Accra and Grand National President with assistance from some past Archdiocesan Executives.

The bazaar was blended with music, dancing competition and musical chairs among the Deaneries and the Roses. At the end of the dancing competition, representatives of the Madina, Kpehe, Tema and Roses were adjudged winners for displaying their skills to the admiration of dignitaries and members.

Present at the ecstatic event were Opanin Alice Yane, the Archdiocesan President; Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Gosu, the Spiritual Director/Chaplain; some past Accra Archdiocesan Executives including Opanin Mary Ofoe, Obaapanyin Rose Deku, Opanin Mary Ekyirifi, Opanin Rosa Mamaa Sam and Opanin Georgina Addo-Tawiah.

Also in attendance were some members of the Council of Patrons and Archdiocesan Organisers.

The Society was introduced and launched in Accra, in March, 1998 at St. Martin De Tours Catholic Church, Teshie Camp, by Dame Obaapanin Gloria Peggy Kwasie. In this small Church, the Society started with only fifteen (15) young and dedicated ladies.

Activities to mark the anniversary were  kick-started iwith launching at the St. Martin De Tours Catholic Church, Teshie Camp on March 25, 2023; launching in the various branches on Sunday March 26, a  donation of refurbished dinning hall to the St. Paul’s Major Seminary Sowutuom, Accra on June 18, and an excursion to the Shai Hills on Saturday, August 5, 2023

Upcoming activities  for the anniversary are Dinner/Awards Night on September 8, 2023 at the Christ the King Parish, Cantonments; a Revival on September 23, 2023 at the St. Martin De Tours Church, Teshie Camp and Climax with a thanksgiving Mass on October 7, 2023 at the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Gbetsile.
