The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has announced the appointment of Robert Dela Yao Mawuenyegah as the Acting Director of the Department of Social Communications (DEPSOCOM).
This significant appointment was made by the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, who expressed his confidence in Mr. Mawuenyegah’s ability to lead the department in its mission to enhance communication within the church and the broader community.
In a notification to all priests and Religious of the Archdiocese signed by Fr. Derrick Dowuona-Hammond, Secretary to Archbishop Kwofie on his behalf, emphasised the importance of supporting Mr. Mawuenyegah in his new role.
He urged all members of the Priests and Religious to provide the necessary assistance and cooperation to ensure the success of DEPSOCOM under Mr. Mawuenyegah’s leadership.
“Issues on Social Communications of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra are to be directed to him,” the notification letter indicated.
Mr. Mawuenyegah is a seasoned communications professional with nearly 15 years of experience in the field. He is the Executive Director of Global NewsWatch Media and Communications, which manages Newswatchgh.com, a faith-based online news agency of which he is also the News Editor.
Additionally, he is a founding member of Lumen Christi Catholic Media Ltd., where he serves as the Organiser and Public Relations Officer on the Board, overseeing operations for Lumen Christi TV.
His extensive background includes serving as a Programs Officer for DEPSOCOM at the National Catholic Secretariat, where he collaborated closely with the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and various departments within the Secretariat.
He has also held positions as Communications and Administrative Officer for Ubora Quality Institute, a Pan-African not-for-profit organization focused on quality improvement projects across Africa.
Mr. Mawuenyegah has provided public relations and media consultancy support to several organizations, including Caritas Ghana and the African Institute of Healthcare Quality, Safety Accreditation (AfIHQSA).
His expertise extends to strategic communications, media coordination, and event management.
A passionate advocate for development communications, Mr. Mawuenyegah is dedicated to social impact activities in health, education, environment, and policy design.
He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA), the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR), and the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners, Ghana (CAMP-G).
Mr. Mawuenyegah is also a devoted member of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and actively participates in his local parish community at Ss. Anne Joachim Parish in Teshie, as well as St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tegbi, Keta-Akatsi Diocese.
As he steps into this pivotal role, Mr. Mawuenyegah through his requisite expertise and experience in enhancing communication strategies will foster greater engagement and connection within the Archdiocese and beyond.
