Must read

The members of the Ancient Noble Order of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), Commandery #497 and their Ladies Auxiliary #419 at Achimota, Accra, have donated items to Matthew 25, a Non-Governmental Organization at Koforidua which takes care of persons living with HIV and AIDS, orphans and the vulnerable.

The Items presented include food, provisions, toiletries and a cash donation to help complete the Hospital which is currently at the roofing stage.

Lt. John Ekow Banafu-Hackman, President of the Commandery and Sister Dr. Naa Ahiawor, who represented the Ladies Auxiliary President, Noble Sister Josephine Bodapkui made the donation, said it was part of their Charity activities to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary.

Msgr. Alex Bobby Benson, Director of the Matthew 25 House, who received the items thanked the members of KSJI for the donations and appealed to other societies to come to the aid of the House to continue to bring smiles to the faces of the vulnerable.

He said the main source of funding of the House which caters for HIV sufferers, orphans and the vulnerable at various stages of their educations was through charity and commended societies in the Catholic Church for their kind gesture and support.

The donors interacted with the HIV and AIDS sufferers during which they were briefed on how they were stigmatized, some families and society have rejected them while some have been ejected from their residences because of the pandemic.

The KSJI members empathized with the sufferers and encouraged them to take their medication and adhere to medical instructions from their Doctors.

The members were later taken to a hospice under construction by Msgr. Bobby Benson to familiarize themselves with the project, which when completed would house terminally ill persons and is the first of its kind in West Africa.

Matthew 25 House is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Ghana, West Africa aimed at helping those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The house also aims at giving aid to orphans and vulnerable children and embraces all people regardless of race, tribe, religious, or political affiliation.
