The 2025 Easter celebration in vibrant Alakple was marked by a display of culture, faith, and a strong commitment to community development.
This year’s event was held under the theme “The Key to Sustainable Development & Progress of Alakple”, drawing citizens and well-wishers from across the country to participate in the festivities.
Speaking at the event, the Volta Regional Minister James Gunu highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives as a foundation for sustainable growth.
He commended the people of Alakple for their unity and dedication to progress, emphasizing that true development starts with the collective efforts of the people.
This year’s celebration featured a rich blend of Christian and traditional ceremonies, reflecting the diverse cultural and spiritual heritage of the community.
Activities included church services, traditional rites, musical performances, and communal gatherings.
The 2025 Easter celebration was also used to raise funds towards the completion of a Community Based Health Planning and Services(CHPS) compound and the construction of a bypass road to improve accessibility to and from the town.
The Guest of Honour Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, Paramount Chief of Klefe Traditional Area emphasized that development is a shared responsibility and encouraged all sons and daughters of Alakple to support community initiatives.
He urged the educated elite not to distance themselves from their roots. “A tree without roots is easily uprooted. No matter how far we travel, we remain sons and daughters of the land,” he said.
The Traditional ruler also addressed the growing challenges among the youth, including substance abuse, idleness, and misplaced priorities driven by the desire for instant wealth.

“We are witnessing a troubling erosion of values. We must act urgently to redirect the energy of our youth into productive pursuits,”
He called for greater investment in skills development and ethical guidance.
Togbe Koku Dzaga applauded Alakple’s legacy of leadership and courage, referencing legendary figures and national icons who have emerged from the town.
He encouraged the people to draw inspiration from their past to tackle modern challenges such as unemployment, environmental degradation and inequality.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Health Authority, Dr. Senanu Dzokoto, who was the Special Guest of Honour stated that that the government of President John Mahama is working diligently to ensure that all citizens benefit from quality health care services, especially at the grassroots level.

He revealed that the NHIA is focused on ensuring prompt payments to health facilities under the scheme to enhance service delivery.
Dr. Dzokoto called on the all citizens to actively participate in community development efforts.
He urged the Youth to stay clear of hard drugs which will affect their future prospects.
The Dufia of Alakple, Amey Hlortator and Fiaga of the Kome Shime Traditional Area, Togbe Amey Zegu II, called for unity which will drive sustainable development and long-term progress for the people of Alakple and its surrounding areas.
Togbe Amey Zegu II urged citizens from all walks of life to set aside differences and embrace a collective spirit of togetherness, which he said is essential to achieving the shared goals of growth and prosperity.

“Development is not the work of one individual or family. It takes a united people to build strong foundations and attract meaningful investments,” he said.
Adding, he indicated that “Alakple is blessed with potential. It is a tourism destination, open to investors particularly in the hospitality sector, as it offers a serene environment and rich cultural heritage that appeals to visitors both local and international.”
The Fiaga of Kome Shime Traditional Area encouraged natives, including those in the diaspora, to contribute their skills, resources, and ideas toward local initiatives.
He indicated that progress hinges not just on infrastructure, but also on social harmony, effective leadership, and community participation.
He highlighted the importance of culture in uniting people and called for renewed commitment to preserving the traditions that define the identity of Alakple, while embracing innovation and partnerships that enhance the town’s visibility and economic prospects.
The 2025 Easter Durbar was attended by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu; Alex Segbefia, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang; the District Chief Executive of Anlo, Sandra Seyram Kpedor, chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups, and dignitaries from various parts of the country.
