Annual Nativity Show Featuring Special Needs Pupils takes place today at New Horizon Special School

New Horizon School will hold its Annual Nativity Show and Christmas Pageant this evening at the school’s amphitheater, aimed at showcasing the talents and abilities of the school’s special needs students.

The event, which has become a regular feature of the school’s end-of-year activities, is expected to attract parents, siblings, guests, and friends of the New Horizon Special School.

Learners will mark the Christmas season with a series of performances, including a nativity play, singing of Christmas carols, recitals, choreographed dances, and a special performance of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” by the special needs class.

According to Madam Mariama Obeng, Head of Exhibition, the learners began their rehearsals in early November and continued till the festive season began.

She explained that the programme, held every year at the end of the term, allows students to demonstrate their skills before parents, friends, and the public.

“We try to put up a small nativity show to showcase what our special needs kids can also do,” Madam Obeng said. “We put in our best so that when people watch the performance, they appreciate what children with special needs are capable of.”

Madam Obeng noted that the rehearsal process supports the special needs individuals to bring out their confidence and abilities.

She noted, “Training any child to bring out their best is not always easy, so you can imagine the challenges involved in preparing children with special needs for a performance. We try as much as possible to help each child project themselves.”

She encouraged parents, community members, and the general public to attend the programme and support the students, adding that every child has potential that can be developed when given the right opportunities.

“Children with special needs have a lot to offer,” she said. “When they are given the chance, they can bring out their abilities. My advice is that we should help them unearth what is good in them, rather than looking down on them.”

The Annual Nativity Show and Christmas Pageant remains one of the most patronized gatherings on the school’s calendar, which gives the learners an opportunity to showcase their talents before the school community.
