Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana Advocates for Peace during the Yuletide

Must read

The Most Rev. Julien Kaboré, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, has called for peace in Africa and the world during this Christmas season, noting that the birth of Christ fills the earth with hope.

Delivering his homily during his first visit to St. Bakhita Parish, Lashibi Community 20, on Christmas Day, Archbishop Kaboré emphasised humanity’s continuous need for a Savior despite technological progress.

He noted, “Do we need the Savior in the times of our future generations? It is precisely here, however, that the child made in nature speaks clearly, revealing that progress, knowledge, power, do not extinguish the deeper longing for the human heart, but prepare to receive anew the gift that only God can give.”

Archbishop Kaboré raised concerns about the ongoing suffering, hunger, and war in the world as a result of “rations or religiosity weighed down by intolerance and stimulation, subject to political pressure and various forms of physical or moral affliction, that hinder the free perception of the fleshly state.”

“Even in this age of abundance and unrestrained consumerism, men and women continue to perish from hunger, from thirst, from disease, and from poverty. Some remain bound by an evil and old form of slavery, he added.

According to the Apostolic Nuncio, humanity’s fragile heart can be easily manipulated, warning that “when instruments of death are placed in our hands, sooner or later they will be used.”

In a strong appeal for peace, the Apostolic Nuncio called for an end to the production, sale, and trade of weapons, describing them as instruments that fuel violence and hypocrisy.

He said, “Those who seek no weapons, but only bread, those who struggle daily to survive, and long peace, often remain aware of how much public wealth is diverted to arms, and sometimes to unheeded attention.”

Citing conflict zones including the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Sahel, and West Africa, Most Rev. Julien Kaboré urged all to become builders of peace, reconciliation, and justice.

He also noted that Christmas brings joy and good news to the world, which has “changed the course of our human history.”

He added, “The message of Bethlehem is truly good news of great joy. But what kind of joy is this? It is not the pleading satisfaction offered at work, not the swath of excitement, of diversion, but the joy that is great because it fills us and resolves our fears.”
