The Most Rev. Julien Kaboré, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana has called on priests and lay faithful to pray for each other during the New Year.
In his homily at the Holy Spirit Cathedral during the New Year mass and Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, he urged the lay faithful and priests to bless each other during the New Year and also to pray for bishops in their various Archdioceses.
He said, “At the beginning of this year, let us not hesitate to bless each other. Let the priests be generous in giving blessing. Please pray also for your Archbishop of this diocese. Pray for your priests that God may bless them and make them holy so that they may guide you”.
He also added that people should pray for those in authority and parents should bless their children in order for blessings to flow in the church and society.
Speaking on the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, Most Rev. Julien Kaboré encouraged the faithful to receive Mary in their hearts, as this helps to receive blessings.
“We too are called to welcome Mary in our hearts. In doing so, we do not only receive blessings but also learn to share blessings”, he said.
Additionally, he sated that in the world full of negativity, these blessings will bring renewal, hope and a restored life.
The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana also spoke on peace, stating that for peace to reign, there must be forgiveness and respect for each other.
He said, “ If you want peace, we need to learn to forgive each other. There is no peace without forgiveness. Forgiveness to give and receive. But also we need to learn to respect each other in his or her dignity. Without respect, it will be hard to achieve peace.”
In this New Year, he encourages the faithful to learn from Mary and to walk in the ways of Jesus Christ.
“As we stand in the threshold of this New Year, we consecrate it to the Holy Mother of God. She who cherish all things in her heart teaches us to care for others, to bless others and to find time for what truly matters. Let us follow her example, learning to walk in the footsteps of her son, Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace”, he said.
