Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana Hails Media’s Role in Spreading the Gospel Digitally

Must read

The Most Rev. Julien Kabore, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, recently hosted His Eminence Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier, OFM, Special Envoy of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, at his residence, where a media encounter was held.

The press briefing was organized to inform the media about the recently concluded celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the creation of the Archdiocese of Cape Coast, along with the dioceses of Accra, Keta, Kumasi, and Tamale.

Most Reverend Julien Kabore, in an address, commended the efforts of the media, emphasizing that they play a vital role in shaping society and promoting the common good.

He noted that the means of social communication can become powerful instruments of truth, dialogue, and peace when placed at the service of the human person.

He further conveyed that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV expressed his closeness to the media and his profound appreciation for their work.

The Nuncio also underscored that “communication goes beyond the mere transmission of information, but about building communion, helping societies to see reality through the lens of our shared humanity”.

While speaking, he took the opportunity to express special gratitude to the Catholic media for their consistent support in accompanying the life of the Church in Ghana and beyond.

He added that through the media’s dedication, “the Gospel finds pathways into the digital continent.”

Continuing his remarks, the Nuncio observed that the missionary vitality of the Church in Ghana is made visible through media collaboration, as “many are strengthened in faith, encouraged in hope, and inspired in charity.”

In addition, he acknowledged that many journalists face threats, harassment, and even imprisonment in their pursuit of truthful reporting, assuring such journalists that the Church stands with them, “recognizing that freedom of expression and freedom of the press are indispensable for defending human dignity and ensuring that people are able to make informed and responsible decisions.”

The Apostolic Nuncio highlighted the immense potential of the media to build bridges where divisions seem insurmountable.

Linking his message to the Gospel reading, he quoted, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” and encouraged journalists to see themselves as artisans of peace through the words they choose, the stories they tell, and the attention they give to those whose voices often go unheard.
