Members of St. Bakhita Parish at Lashibi Comm. 20 warmly received the Most Rev. Julien Kaboré, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, during his first visit to the church on the feast of the Nativity of the Lord.

The celebration drew all members of the parish, including various societies, religious men and women, and children, to witness the historic visit of the Apostolic Nuncio and to celebrate the Nativity of Jesus Christ.

In an address by Mrs. Joycelyn Esiape, PPC Chair of St. Bakhita Parish, she expressed gratitude to the Nuncio for celebrating Christmas with the church and highlighted some milestones the church has achieved.

She noted, “We are delighted to have you join us on this special day and season of the Lord. The Bakhita Parish is 20 years old, having been founded in the year 2005 as an outstation of Corpus Christi Parish in a pavilion at comm. 18 and has grown to the present level with a chapel, a beautiful community of God’s faithful, and a seating capacity of about 3000.”

“We are pleased to inform you that we have begun an outstation at Klagon known as the Epiphany Catholic Church, which had its first anniversary on December 1, 2025, she added.

Mrs. Joycelyn Esiape expressed her joy in the Nuncio’s visit, urging him to frequently visit the parish.

She said, “We are indeed the fortunate ones for the nuncio to have chosen this special day to celebrate the Eucharist with us….We are a loving and fortunate family, and we wish to have many more such visits in the coming years.”

Most Rev. Julien Kaboré also expressed his gratitude to the parish community for their warm welcome and commended them for the work they have done.
He said, “Allow me to express sentiments of sincere gratitude to the parish priest, Fr. Hilary, and to all those who have made my presence possible today in this parish dedicated to St. Josephine Bakhita.

The Apostolic Nuncio noted that St. Bakhita was an African woman of “human-born faith and charity whose life continues to speak with strength about humility, love, peace, forgiveness, and the joy that flows from salvation.”

In his homily, he encouraged the parish and all faithful to become builders of peace, reconciliation, and justice in today’s world marked by war and hunger.

He added that the gift of Christ’s nativity allows all to become God’s children, noting that, “He opens before them the possibility, the opportunity of beholding God’s glory and of sharing in the joy of God’s love which took flesh for us in heaven”.

A portrait of St. Bakhita and a kente stole, designed with the parish’s logo, was presented to the Apostolic Nuncio as a reminder of his visit to St. Bakhita Parish and the love the parish community has for him.
