The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has encouraged missionary children and their animators to save funds to support needy Churches in the Archdiocese.
Speaking at the St. Bernadette Soubirous School on December 28, 2024 to celebrate the feast of Holy Innocents and spend time with children from the eight Deaneries in the Archdiocese, he said that Missionary Childhood can help Churches that are in need through the savings they gather at the end of every month.
He said, “Every month, the children will be keeping some money and at the end of the month it becomes big money to take care of the Church where there is need, they send this money to the Church.”
This initiative would help children understand the true essence of being missionary children and also guide them to live accordingly.
Archbishop Kwofie also encouraged the animators to support their children to help them gather funds to aid Churches who are in need.
During the Mass, he urged children to join the children’s choir in their various Parishes, while congratulating the children’s mass choir from Martyrs of Uganda Church at Mamprobi and St. Margaret Mary Church at Dansoman who sang melodiously during the Mass.
“I hope you have a choir like this in your Parishes”, he said, encouraging the children to actively participate in the choir in their various Parishes.
Towards the end of the Mass, children from the St. Theresa’s Parish at Kaneshie performed a sketch inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si.
The children, known as Lumen Christi advocated for the care and protection of the environment.
“Remember, taking care of the earth is the way to show love for God and for each other. Let us love the creatures that God has made and they will love us the same way”, they said.
