The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra has emphasised the importance of the use of social communications in spreading the Word of God.

He said this while delivering his Homily at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Afuaman on June 1, 2025.

Archbishop Kwofie reminded the congregation about the importance of social communication as the means to communicate the Word of God and the word of man saying, “…the Word of God is the preaching” as the day marked the 59th World Communications Day.

He explained that it was ideal to use languages to communicate, which aims at entertaining and instructing people but stressed on the need to spread the word of God through the use of social communications.

In his Homily, he recalled that it has been 62 years ago since the Church recognised that the media was properly utilised and being of great service to mankind.

He also noted that since the media contributes to entertaining and instructing people, it can also be used to support and strengthen the work of the kingdom of God.

He mentioned that television, radio and social media channels like WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok are tools for entertainment and instructional purposes, but are sometimes used for inappropriate actions and behaviours.

He said, “…indeed, we sometimes use these media against the plan of God.”

He further acknowledged the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) saying that gospel readings can be sent to AI and it will generate preaching from the readings.

“God wants us to use our social communication for our instructions” he added.

Archbishop Kwofie also touched on forgiveness and unity during his message with references to the first reading from Acts 7:55-60 and gospel reading from John 17:20-26.

He advised the congregation to always forgive one another as believers regardless of the offences. “Forgive even to death” he said.

He encouraged the congregation to live in unity as believers of Christ despite the divisions in the Church.

He stated, “it is horrible for Christianity to be in a world so much divided”.

He noted two key factors which are power and money as the cause of division among Christian in the world and referenced from 1st Corinthians 1:10 where Paul spoke against division in the Church.
