Ashongman St. Mark Catholic School Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Charity Outreach, Literacy Drive

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebrations, St. Mark Catholic School, at Ashongman Estates in Accra, has reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education and social responsibility through two key activities: a charitable outreach to an orphanage and a lively book fair to promote literacy among young learners.

In a heartfelt display of compassion and community spirit, staff, pupils, and parents of the School visited the Motherly Love Orphanage at Kwabenya-Abuom Junction, where they donated foodstuffs, toiletries, clothing, educational supplies, and a cash gift of GHC 2,000.

The gesture forms part of the School’s broader vision of shaping not just academically sound pupils but also morally grounded and socially conscious individuals.

“Education must extend beyond the classroom,” said Rev. Sr. Felicity Amikiya, SHCJ, Headteacher of St. Mark Catholic School, who led the donation team. “We want our pupils to understand the power of giving, empathy, and building a compassionate society,” she stated.

The donation team included the Priest-in-charge and Local Manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Precious Franklin Kofi Nutsugah.

Following the orphanage visit, the school hosted a vibrant Book Fair on campus. The event drew in publishers, educators, students, and parents from across the community. The fair featured interactive storytelling sessions, reading corners, exhibitions by local publishers, and book signings.

It was designed to promote reading, encourage creative expression, and instil a lifelong love for books in children.

“These events speak to the heart of our mission — academic excellence grounded in values of service and faith,” added Rev. Sr. Felicity. “As we celebrate 25 years of growth, we are proud to look back on how far we’ve come and even more excited about what lies ahead.”

The anniversary celebrations are expected to be climaxed with a Speech and Prize-Giving Day and Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, July 19, 2025, bringing together alumni, students, parents, and distinguished guests to honour the school’s achievements and legacy.

St. Mark Catholic School remains a beacon of quality education in Ghana’s basic school sector, committed to raising intellectually sound and morally upright future leaders.
