Seven Temporary Professed Nuns of Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience during which they were advised to be faithful and committed to their vows.
Rev. Fr. Samuel Eco Kornu, Chaplain of the Mater Ecclesiae School at Sokode Gbogame in the Ho Diocese of Ghana’s Volta Region, gave the advice at a Mass at the SMMC Chapel on June 30, 2024,
In his homily, he urged the Sisters to embrace poverty and humility, saying,
“Poverty does not mean we should be lazy and become a burden to others, neither does it mean we should throw away everything but rather to live humbly.”
He said the poor and the rich are both essential to society, adding that the truly rich are not those who have many things but those who share their resources.
Sr. Cecilia Afari, the Vicar General of SMMC, who received the vows of the Sisters on behalf of the Superior General, congratulated them for their bold step.
She also congratulated two other temporary professed sisters who had been admitted into the Novitiate for their second Novitiate programme in preparation for their final vows.
In accordance with the constitution of SMMC, every Temporary Professed Sister shall renew her vows annually. And shall be due for perpetual profession after minimum of six and maximum of nine years. These period of temporary vows is part of the discernment process and is marked by on-going formation and evaluation.
