Beacon of Hope Fetes Children at Juapong

Must read

Over 100 children from Botikope and some parts of Juapong town under the Keta-Akatsi Diocese have been feted at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic at Juapong by the Beacon of Hope, a group made of young Catholic career professionals who aim at embarking on charitable works.

Botikope is a community under the St. Francis of Assisi Parish at Juapong, known as the City of God headed by Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Hanson.

The Beacon of Hope has an aim of seeking to reach out to children, the aged, sick, and needy and also support vocations both Priests and Seminarians during Christmas.

Having the motto derived from Mother Teresa of Calcutta: “Not all of us can do great things but we can do small things with great love,” the group on December 26, 2023, feted the children with variety of foods including, banku and tilapia, jollof rice.

The children had quizzes, musical chairs and dancing competition as part of the celebration. However, these activities were preceded by a Mass presided over by Fr. Hanson and concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Reuben Awuye, Parish Priest of St. Francis of Assisi and is Assistant, Fr. Michael Selasie Combey. Also in attendance were some Religious Sisters.

Mrs. Florence Akuamoah, leader of the Beacon of Hope said the group celebrates with children every year at different locations in the Greater Accra and the eastern Regions.

“This group is formed upon the realisation that children are the future of the Catholic Church and we need to give them some hope for the future,” she said in an interview with Newswatchgh.com.

She said the feting of the 100 children at Christmas was aimed to give hope to the vulnerable children and give them smiles in their faces during Christmas. “I am also using this medium to welcome young and old both home abroad to join the team to help children,” she told Newswatchgh.com.

Fr. Awuye, thanked the young Catholics for the gesture, an initiative he said, was worth emulating.
