Bishop Herman Old Boys Launch GHc500K Fundraiser to kick-start School Rehab project

Must read

The Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU) is setting in motion an ambitious plan to raise some five hundred thousand cedis to kickstart a drive to rehabilitate structures in the school.

The drive according to executives of the union, would among others help rebuild dilapidated structures and raise the standard of those in deplorable condition on the school’s campus in Kpando in the Volta Region.

It would also involve creating programmes to mentor students and urge them to aspire to become the best of themselves when they pass out.

At an event to unveil the 70th anniversary logo and launch the fundraiser, president of BHOBU Dr. Setor Osae noted, ” this is the beginning of a revolution to give back to the school that made us into the people we have become today.”

According to him, “if all Old students put their shoulders to the wheel, we can make BIHECO great again and we have to start somewhere.

Dr. Osae was pleased about the positive feedback so far received from the BHOBU community for the task ahead.

The Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area and president of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Terpreh Hodo IV, speaking at the event, challenged Old students home and abroad to commit to seeing the school rise again.

As an old student himself, he also challenged executives of BHOBU and other Old students to spread their tentacles to reach out to as many people as possible, especially businessmen from the Volta region so they can extend some support towards the project.

The chairperson for the event, Professor Ernest Dumor believes the target is attainable.

“We must be proud of the school that made us. And commit to instill in our children the very core values we attained from that great school.”

“We must also insist that the Catholic church, extends support to the church they established and not leave everything to government.”

He noted, “government is heavily overstretched because they have taken on too much and so there is very little they can do. But we can pile pressure on the Catholic church to support us. Whether in the region or at the national level. We need to insist on this, ” he said.

At end of the event, an amount of fifty-one thousand cedis (GHS 51, 000) was raised in pledges towards the five-hundred-thousand-cedi target expected to be used to get the school back on its feet.

An exquisite logo was unveiled which would be used for souvenirs and other paraphernalia for the 70th anniversary celebrations next year.

The launch of the anniversary events proper is expected to happen on November 27, 2021.

The national executive committee of BHOBU says it is hopeful of rallying support towards the project which has received the buy-in of the headmaster of the school, Dominic Kudolo.
