The Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Diocese of the Volta Region of Ghana, the Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, has appealed to adults in the country to teach children and youth how to be humble than always blaming them for being disrespectful.
“Nowadays, the common saying is that, ‘youth are not respecting’. Where do they learn it from? They learn it from us- through what we say and do before them, he opined in a homily on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023 at St. Michael Co-Cathedral, Keta.
Bishop Kumordji urged all parents and adults to emulate the life of Christ, who through humility saved us from sin and granted us salvation; and in turn, instill that same virtue in the younger ones.
“Humility is not a sign of being weak, it is not a shame. We need to humble ourselves, no matter what,” he stated.
He requested five people from the faithful to volunteer to intercede for the Church in the whole year for three things – “For the love of Christ to reign in the Church,” “For the spirit of Forgiveness to reign in the heart of all people and “For unity to reign in the Church.”
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) Intercessory Ministry of the Parish took up the request of the Bishop and promised giving the Bishop the names of the five people that volunteered to pray for the Church.
The celebration began from Keta Lorry Park near the market, with the blessing of palm branches and continued with procession through the principal streets of Keta to the Church.
In a short reflection before the procession, Bishop Kumordji said Christians should see the entering of Jesus into Jerusalem to die for us as basis of their salvation.
He asked the faithful gathered to reflect on how Jesus knowing he was going to die, yet went ahead to Jerusalem.
He asked the faithful to see themselves entering Jerusalem to be liberated from their own sufferings, pains and troubles, which would be accomplished through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Mr. Richard Kpehor, the Church President of St. Michael Co-Co-Cathedral, in showing gratitude, thanked Bishop Kumordji for always being a father to the Parish and for choosing to celebrate this year’s Palm Sunday with them.
The Mass was presided over by Bishop Kumordji and con-celebrated by Rev. Fr. Michael Elorm Gbordzor, the St. Michael Co-Cathedral Administrator.
As part of the celebration, the youth of the Parish, amid gladness entertained the Bishop with a cultural dance after Mass.
In showing appreciation, Sacred Heart Confraternity made a donation to the Bishop.
