Bishop Louis of Accra Urges Catholic Ladies to Remain in the Church after Marriage

Must read

The Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Accra has advised Catholic ladies to remain strong in the Catholic faith even after marriage.

He made this statement during the Mass of the 30th Anniversary celebration of St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashongman Estate on April 20, 2025.

According to him, many Catholic women leave the Church after marrying outside the Church.

He said, “There are people over there using marriage to take away our daughters. They will come and say we agree, we will come and marry in your church but once the wedding is finished, and they go to the house he says follow me, and because you don’t want divorce you follow him”.

He advised that though it might not be possible for all Catholic women to marry from the Church, they must remain steadfast in their Catholic faith.

“If anyone comes to you, if you don’t get anyone here… I know it is realistic you may all not get one from the Catholic Church but whoever is coming from outside, lay down your cards, tell the person, I am a Catholic and I will remain a Catholic for life. Are you ready to marry me? Make it clear”, he advised.

While speaking, Bishop Louis made mention of the fact that all Churches were not the same and that the Catholic Church was grounded by Peter, the first Pope.

He said, “All churches are not the same if you go to Matthew 16 Jesus said, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.” He built the Church on Peter, the first Pope and that church has existed for 2000 years”.

He urged young Catholic women to remain strong in the faith, saying, “This is the only Church Jesus established. Get it right and remain in the church. It is not about they are the same, they are not the same.”

Using the Papal’s Flag of the Knights of St. John International, which has the Pope’s emblem, he explained, “This is the Pope’s emblem. You see the sign of the key, the key given to Peter, the keys of the kingdom of heaven. That is the only Church.”
